The Aircraft Sheetmetal Mechanic I, maintenance fabricates, installs and maintains in good repair the sheet-metal equipment and fixtures (such as machine guards, grease pans, shelves, lockers, tanks, ventilators, chutes, ducts, metal roofing) of an establishment. Forms metal using cornice brake, punch press, drill press, and similar metal forming tools. Finish and smooth edges of metal sheet after cutting and assembles component sheet metal piece with rivets, screws, nuts and bolts. Aligns, drills and reams material for installation of various types of riveting and taking precautions to protect dissimilar metals. Applies necessary protective compounds, special insulating protective tape, plastic cement, fiberglass resins, etc. Independently lays out template, transcribes information from template and manufactures double contour parts with configuration in several planes. Assembles and fastens fabricated parts by installing bolts, rivets, screws and/or seaming. Ensures finished aircraft parts meet quality standards for soundness, strength, appearance in accordance with specification and/or similar requirements. Employee may be required to work inside fuel tanks (e.g., CH 47) or other confined spaces. Follows all safety procedures and for using appropriate personal protective equipment to include checking protective devices for proper operation and maintains a safe clean work environment. Minimum Requirements: Valid up-to-date A&P license. If no A&P license, shall have three (3) years aviation maintenance experience, two (2) years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two (2) years on the assigned (MDS) CH-47 Preferred.
